Spring 2015 with the Russian succes on the crime peninsula 2014 behind them Russia decided to annex Finland with the excuse that Finland once was a part of Russia so they invaded Finland who directly asked NATO and the west for help. The finns hard fight created a possibility for NATO to reinforce the frontline which has now been stabilised for two weeks now. This in turn has created the conditions for a counter-offensive along the southern highway from Helsinki to the Russian border. The plan is that 82nd airborne will air assault and grab key terrain to cut of the Russian forces between Helsinki and the border to enable an larger armored force to attack east to the Russian border. One of the targets for 82nd airborne is the airfield at VIROJOKI known as OBJECTIVE OVERLORD to prevent russian reinforcements from the east... Much of the orders and enemy intel for this mission will come from the extra recon mission played on Wednesday 7th September!
Terrain & weather Terrain is mostly forested area with some minor open fields to the east and west of VIROJOKI. AO is cut in several sections by the MSR going west-east and the river VIROJOKI going north-south with the town VIROJOKI forming an obstacle in the SW part of the AO. Main feature in the AO is the airfield of VIROJOKI located NE of the town with a runway going north-south with terminal area located in the NW part of the runway.
