Premiss
UNIT: 4th Company, 27th Marine Expeditionary Unit FORMATION: 27th MEU, 2nd Marine Division DATE/TIME GROUP: 121245COCT09 OPERATION: HARVEST RED LOCATION: AO SOLNICHNIYY–BEREZINO, SOUTH ZAGORIA, CHERNARUS CLASSIFICATION: CONFIDENTIAL
a. Enemy Forces ChDKz insurgents under the Akula Brigade’s banner are defending the urban stronghold of BEREZINO and surrounding areas. The brigade consists of approximately 300–400 fighters structured into multiple light infantry elements, supported by a limited number of armored vehicles, including T-72 and T-55 main battle tanks, BMPs, BTRs, and MT-LBs. They lack any form of indirect fires but compensate with mines, IEDs, and RPGs including RsHG-1/2 and RPO-A thermobaric systems. The enemy possesses MANPADS (e.g., 9K38 Igla, 9K35 Strela), though effective use is limited by under-trained personnel. See ATTACHED FILE: A for INTELSEC briefing of enemy composition. Expect static defensive positions in urban areas, deliberate mining of southern Berezino, and light armor reaction forces held in reserve. b. Friendly Forces -4th Company (this unit; Callsign: Delta) is tasked with clearing the southern axis of Berezino. -2nd Company (Callsign: Reclaimer), 27th MEU is conducting clearance operations in SOLNICHNIYY, securing the LZ and surrounding town center. Main effort to push towards ORLOVETS and destroy enemy forces present there. -3rd Company (Callsign: Wardaddy), 27th MEU is conducting a simultaneous overland assault on NORTHERN BEREZINO from the direction of SVETLOYARSK to capture the docks and industrial area. -1st Company (Callsign: Waggoner), 27th MEU on stand-by aboard USS Khe Sahn. -Rotary-wing support[b]: --[b]1x AH-1Z Cobra (Callsign: RAPTOR 1-1) --1x UH-1Y Venom (Callsign: ICEPACK 3-1) ---Air assets are shared between 4th and 3rd Companies, tasked with CAS, armor interdiction, recon and field resupply at the discretion of JTAC. -4th Mechanized Regiment, CDF (Chernarus Defence Forces) convoy advancing from ELEKTROZAVODSK is expected to arrive in SOLNICHNIYY within ~60 minutes to relieve USMC forces.
4th Company, 27th MEU will conduct a coordinated assault into the town of BEREZINO NLT 121330COCT09 in order to seize control of the southern half of the urban zone and support the northern push by 3rd Company, enabling full occupation and control of BEREZINO.
a. Commander’s Intent The purpose of this operation is to dislodge ChDKz forces from Berezino through a multi-pronged assault, neutralize enemy armored threats, and secure key infrastructure to enable follow-on operations further north. 4th Company will assault from the south and act in close coordination with 3rd Company’s thrust from the north. Control of Berezino is critical to cutting off ChDKz retreat and disrupting their ability to rearm or regroup along the coastal corridor. b. Concept of Operations The operation will proceed in three sequential phases: Phase 1 – Air Assault and Factory Clearance -All platoons will land at LZ IRON, south of Solnichniyy. -Link up with 2nd Coy. elements already engaged. -Assault and neutralize remaining ChDKz presence in the northern factory complex (Grid 130071), then reconsolidate at Solnichniyy north perimeter. Phase 2 – Staging and Southern Berezino Assault Prep -All platoons regroup outside Solnichniyy and prepare to initiate the Berezino assault. -2nd Platoon will form the main effort, assaulting Berezino’s southern residential blocks and roadway intersections. -3rd Platoon (supporting effort) will move on the eastern axis, clearing or flanking enemy positions and linking with 2nd Platoon during the advance. -1st Platoon will remain on stand-by at the assembly point. -RAPTOR 1-1 and ICEPACK 3-1 will provide on-call CAS and anti-armor support directed through Company JTAC. -Mine threat is high; proceed with engineers or deliberate breaching protocols as needed. Phase 3 – Seizure and Consolidation -Secure all key positions in southern Berezino, defined as: --Residential zones SOUTH of LINE DELTA 1. --See ATTACHED FILE B for terrain considerations and key positions. -Prepare to support 3rd Company’s advance into the northern industrial zone with fire coordination and interdict enemy retreat/reinforcement corridors. -Establish defensive positions and await CDF arrival to relieve 4th Company elements in Solnichniyy. c. Tasks to Subordinate Units 1st Platoon: -Land at LZ IRON (Grid: 134057). -Support LZ security and facilitate 2nd Platoon’s staging operations. -Prepare for potential QRF or rear-area defense if ambushes emerge along the coastal road. 2nd Platoon (Main Effort): -Assault and secure SOLNICHNIYY FACTORY COMPLEX. -Lead the advance into SOUTHERN BEREZINO, secure all designated key positions WEST of line BLUE 1. -Identify and mark minefields or enemy armor threats for air or AT engagement. -Establish northern blocking positions to prevent enemy retreat from 3rd Coy AO. 3rd Platoon (Supporting Effort): -Advance alongside 2nd Platoon, flanking through BEREZINO’s southeast quadrant. -Coordinate SBF and clearance operations EAST of line BLUE 1, maintaining contact with 2nd Platoon. -Secure east-side approach routes and prevent encirclement. Company JTAC: -Deconflict airspace, direct fire missions via RAPTOR 1-1/ICEPACK 3-1 platforms. -Prioritize targets: enemy armor, fortified positions, and any vehicle movement toward BEREZINO. d. Coordinating Instructions -H-Hour: 121300COCT09 (approximate LZ insertion) -PID is mandatory — ChDKz forces are operating in proximity to civilians. -Expect civilian presence in BEREZINO; collateral damage must be minimized. -Enemy may attempt to ambush forces en route — be prepared to assist if contact is made. -ROZ (Restricted Operating Zone) for rotary-wing assets is 2km radius from CENTRAL BEREZINO; use JTAC to clear fires.
-Resupply Point established near LZ IRON; Class I–V coordinated via Company Log NCO. Later coordinated via Coy. JTAC, 2nd Plt at secure LZ. -CASEVAC via UH-1Y unless otherwise specified; LZ status must be confirmed by Platoon HQ prior to medevac. -POWs to be processed at Solnichniyy staging area and held for handoff to incoming CDF forces.

OPFOR BRIEFING: ChDKZ 'Akula Brigada' CLASSIFICATION: CONFIDENTIAL Compiled by: INTELSEC, 2nd Marine Division DTG: 111200COCT09 1. ENEMY IDENTIFICATION Faction: Chernarussian Movement of the Red Star (ChDKz) Unit Designation: “Akula Brigada” Size: Estimated 300–400 personnel (light brigade strength) Area of Operations: Towns of Solnichniyy, Berezino, Orlovets, northeastern Chernarus. Command Structure: Loosely organized brigade under localized command; tactical control typically held at platoon/company level. Command likely consists of former Soviet-era military officers and politically vetted leadership. 2. COMPOSITION a. Infantry: -Core strength comprised of irregular light infantry with varying levels of training and equipment. -Armed with predominantly Soviet weaponry and AK-series rifles (AKM, AK-74), RPKs, and PKM machine guns. -Anti-armor capability includes RPG-7, RPG-18, RPG-26. -Thermobaric and special munitions: --RsHG-1 / RsHG-2: Compact thermobaric weapons for anti-structure use. Highly effective in urban terrain. --RPO-A "Shmel": Heavy thermobaric launcher with significant lethality against fortified positions. Significant threat to troops in cover or in fortifications. b. Mechanized and Armored Support: -Tanks: --1–2 T-72A/M1s (limited capability against modern armor) --2–4 T-55AM2s (possibly used in static defense or decoy roles) -IFVs/APCs: --BMP-1 / BMP-2 in limited numbers --BTR-60/70/80 wheeled APCs used for rapid response and infantry mobility --MT-LBs serving both logistical and support functions All vehicles are of Soviet origin and in varying states of maintenance. Vehicle serviceability and crew proficiency is expected low to moderate. c. Air Defense Capabilities: -Known to operate man-portable air defense systems (MANPADS): --9K38 IGLA (SA-18) and 9K35 Strela-10 (SA-13) missile systems observed in sector. --Tactical employment has been inconsistent due to lack of qualified operators and poor maintenance. --Despite this, threat to low-flying aircraft, helicopters, and UAVs must be considered credible within 5 km of Berezino and Solnichniyy. d. Engineering & Obstacle Employment: -No formal engineer units. -Mine warfare is ad-hoc but confirmed. -AT mines emplaced along primary MSRs and armored approach routes to Berezino. -Potential for APERS mines and IEDs in urban and forested terrain. -Booby-trapped entryways and fortified buildings are likely, particularly within Berezino’s urban core. 3. CAPABILITIES -Proficient in urban defense and asymmetric warfare. -Effective use of terrain, obstacles, and decentralized resistance. -Capable of mounting localized resistance and delaying actions, especially in built-up areas. -Possession of thermobaric launchers and RPG variants provides high lethality in close urban combat. -Despite lack of integrated air defense, MANPADS threat remains active and cannot be discounted. 4. LIMITATIONS -No integrated air defense network; light anti-air capability is sporadic and user-dependent. -No artillery or indirect fire support; tactical engagements are line-of-sight only. -Limited resupply capabilities; logistics are localized and vulnerable. -Armor assets are obsolete and maintenance-starved; poor reliability in sustained operations. -Training quality is uneven, with reliance on veteran cadre to lead minimally trained recruits. 5. ASSESSMENT -Morale: Generally high; fighters are ideologically driven and defending perceived homeland territory -Training: Inconsistent; veterans present but much of the force is composed of ad-hoc militia -Tactical Profile: Expect layered urban defenses, preplanned fallback positions, and terrain denial via mining Likely COAs (Courses of Action): -Immediate: Hold terrain using mines, RPG ambushes, and fortified buildings. -Deliberate: Withdraw northward through the forested ridgelines if flanked or overrun. -Unlikely: Counterattack; limited offensive capability, focus on attrition-based defense. 6. RECOMMENDATIONS -Engineer support forward of maneuver units is critical to detect and clear mines. -Avoid low, slow rotary-wing operations within MANPADS envelope unless cleared. -Employ combined arms teams for clearing operations in urban zones. -Prepare for high-risk close-quarters engagements with thermobaric and RPG saturation. -Civilian presence likely — strict adherence to ROE and PID protocols required.
